Simon Jordan trips up over Aston Villa PSR claim as Jim White instantly shut down
Simon Jordan has argued that Aston Villa are not as well run as Jim White appears to think.
Villa are still on course for arguably the most successful campaign in their history as they battle on multiple fronts.
Despite losing three games in a row in all competitions, the Villans are still fifth in the Premier League and are in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Unai Emery’s men have a 1-0 deficit to overturn when they take on Forest in Thursday night’s second leg at Villa Park.
What could be a season for the ages has come amid a backdrop of financial issues, leading to a UEFA charge at the start of the campaign.

Simon Jordan gets it wrong over Aston Villa PSR shout
Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens (NSWE) have helped oversee a hugely successful period on the field for Aston Villa in recent times.
NSWE are ambitious and have tried to find ways to keep Villa competitive without breaching financial rules.
Villa have even sold the women’s team internally to offload fees that would have counted toward the club’s 2025-26 accounts.
| Financial department | Loss/Income |
| Revenue | £378m |
| Wages | £273m |
| Profit on Aston Villa Women sale | £78m |
| Profit on warehouse sale | £36m |
| Underlying loss | £140m |
| Player sale profits | £52m |
| Pre tax profit | £17m |
| Total losses over the years | £882m |
However, NSWE recorded a £96.7million loss on their UK Limited accounts for 2024-25, while Villa’s underlying loss for the 2024-25 campaign was £140m.
Villa have been in trouble with UEFA over the past 12 months, with a loss limit in place for this season which cannot exceed the £5m mark.
However, what is important to note is that – unlike some clubs in the Premier League – Villa just about spent with their means to avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
That is what led to Everton and Nottingham Forest being docked points in the past, but Villa were able to navigate safer waters through various sales – both on the pitch and off it.
However, this seemed to pass Jordan by on talkSPORT on Thursday morning when discussing Villa’s owners.
Co-host White pointed out how well run Villa have been under NSWE, to which Jordan replied: “Let’s get it right – they breached PSR.
Villa Park Boardroom: Power Structure
“So when we say ‘well run’, by the governance of what? Ambition levels? Well run is Tony Bloom [at Brighton]; Matthew Benham [at Brentford].”
Jordan did go on to give Villa chiefs their flowers for the ambition they have shown, but stating they breached PSR is just plain wrong.
Aston Villa report record revenue
Aston Villa reported record revenue of £275.7m for the 2024-25 financial year, up from £217.7m the previous year.
That is a 27 per cent increase, which has been driven by various factors – increased ticket prices being one of them.

There is still a lot of money slipping through the cracks, but qualifying for the Champions League once again next season will bring in a massive financial windfall.
Back-to-back losses have made things slightly more difficult, but you would still massively back Emery to get Villa over the line with a top-five finish.
Winning the Europa League also means qualification for UEFA’s showpiece competition, so NSWE will no doubt be factoring that hefty payout into their financial planning.
