Aston Villa to wash their hands of Evann Guessand with swap deal now on the cards

Evann Guessand’s underwhelming time at Aston Villa could be coming to an end soon.

Unai Emery is after more attackers on the back of signing young prospect Brian Madjo from French side Metz, in a push for success this campaign and for years to come.

Villa signed Guessand from Nice in the summer for a deal that amounted to £30million after add-ons, but the forward hasn’t been able to impress at B6 yet.

Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move back to Villa Park, with rumours intensifying in recent days.

However, Crystal Palace’s interest in Guessand poses an interesting logistical conversation.

Aston Villa interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta amid Evann Guessand’s Crystal Palace chatter

Aston Villa‘s 1-0 loss to Everton on Sunday showed the need for attacking reinforcements and further proved that Guessand is not cut out for Villa’s standards.

John McGinn came off early in the match, as Guessand was his replacement in the 18th minute.

The Ivorian failed to inspire off the bench, but the Villans have been handed a January lifeline by Crystal Palace.

According to David Ornstein on Tuesday, Villa are monitoring Jean-Philippe Mateta‘s situation at Palace, with the striker potentially leaving Selhurst Park this month.

The Eagles are preparing for the Frenchman’s exit, as they have turned their attention to Guessand as his possible replacement.

It would make sense if both sides agreed to a player-plus-cash swap deal that would see the forwards head in the opposite directions in the coming weeks.

Aston Villa won’t go for Mateta and Tammy Abraham; here’s why

Abraham has reportedly agreed personal terms to rejoin Aston Villa, years after his heroic 2018-19 promotion season with the Villans.

However, Roberto Olabe and Co. have yet to strike an agreement with Besiktas and Roma to end the striker’s loan deal with the former.

The ex-Chelsea man is on £100,000 per week, and it’s extremely hard to see how Villa could pull off his signing as well as Mateta’s.

It has to be one or the other, considering Villa’s financial constraints, as Mateta could be a backup option for Abraham.
