Aston Villa annoy fans at another club as latest transfer activity confirmed – ‘Heartbroken’

Unai Emery has some big Aston Villa transfer calls to make this month.

Aston Villa are expected to be active in the winter transfer window, as Emery attempts to keep his side in the Premier League title race.

Villa were able to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 last time out, putting behind the disappointment of their 4-1 loss to Arsenal.

Emery has now been linked with the Chelsea job, such is the job he’s doing/has been performing at Villa Park, but it would be a major shock to see him ditch Aston Villa for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Exeter City fans fume at Aston Villa’s Sil Swinkels decision

Instead, Emery will be fully focused on both Villa’s upcoming clash with Crystal Palace on Wednesday, as well as the business he can do in the transfer market.

Most of the talk will be on incomings, but there will be some key decisions to make on the futures of some of Aston Villa’s talented young players, and one of those has already been made.

Sil Swinkels has been recalled by Villa from his loan spell at Exeter City, before immediately being sent back out on loan to League Two side Chesterfield.

Swinkels has been tipped for a first-team breakthrough at Villa Park in recent times, but the 21-year-old defender is evidently being given time to develop senior experience away from the club.

Many Exeter fans aren’t best pleased with this news, despite the fact he’d only been able to make seven League One appearances for them during the first half of the season.

“That’s a shame, but I think Luca [Woodhouse], [Ed] Turns and Johnly [Yfeko] (when both fit) are ahead of him in the pecking order. Also I think this opens up a loan spot should we need to replace a departure in this window which is no bad thing. Wish him luck on his next move,” said another Exeter fan.

Another Exeter supporter simply wrote: “Heartbroken.”

Swinkels’ Exeter City stint by the numbers

Given that Swinkels has been pulled out of his League One loan move only to be shipped out to League Two, perhaps shows that the Dutch defender is some way off being ready to compete for a first-team role with Aston Villa.

But given the response from many Exeter fans, he appears to have made a good impression during his time at St James’ Park.

As per FotMob, Swinkels won 69.2 per cent of his aerial duels, made 1.28 interceptions per 90 minutes, won just 0.91 tackles per game, and completed 0.18 dribbles successfully per game.

Swinkels has already made his debut for Chesterfield, playing the full 90 minutes in their 2-2 draw with MK Dons on Sunday, in which he earned a 7.2/10 rating per FotMob.
