Aston Villa may have unorthodox Ollie Watkins succession plan as officials fly out

Aston Villa have set their sights on Brazilian duo Kaio Jorge and Alysson for next summer’s transfer window.

Villa suffered a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool last Saturday, in another Premier League game where their players failed to get on the scoresheet.

Indeed, it was a pitiful display where the Villans were unable to create a single big chance.

With Unai Emery no doubt determined to see Villa climb up the Premier League table and beyond, the Spanish coach could be glad to see some extra firepower within his ranks.

Aston Villa scouts fly out for Gremio vs Cruzerio

Villa flew out scouts to watch Jorge and Alysson face off in Cruzeiro’s narrow 1-0 win over Gremio in the Brazilian Serie A on Wednesday.

This comes after it was revealed that the Villans are interested in signing both Cruzeiro striker Jorge and Gremio forward Alysson this summer, according to ESPN Brazil on 5 November.

Jorge is currently the top scorer of the Brazilian Championship with 17 goals scored, while 19-year-old Alysson is considered one of the league’s more impressive talents.

It is believed that the 23-year-old striker will receive offers from several overseas teams at the end of the season. Given his stellar form and potential, Cruzeiro are not set to part with him for less than £30million.

Meanwhile, Alysson, who is contracted until 2029, is also on the radar of several European clubs.

While Villa have not yet started negotiations for either player, they have contacted both clubs to understand more about a potential deal.

Ollie Watkins must pick up the pace

One must admit that it would be quite unorthodox for Villa to sign two players from Brazil rather than one already established in Europe.

However, Watkins has just not been good enough for Villa in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, Watkins has netted just one goal in nine starts this season, which marks a huge fall off from the 19 goals and 13 assists he accumulated during the 2023-24 season.

Watkins was linked with a departure from Villa over the summer, which could be the reason behind their dwellings in the market, as well as his poor form.

Either way, the 29-year-old must pick up the pace or risk losing his spot in their starting lineup for good.
