Aston Villa player ratings vs Feyenoord: Evann Guessand flops, 7/10 top-class again

Aston Villa secured a second Europa League win of the season against Feyenoord on Thursday.

Villa travelled to face Feyenoord as Unai Emery’s side continued their efforts on the continental stage.

Villa beat Bologna 1-0 last time out at Villa Park and followed that up with a 2-0 win away against Robin van Persie’s side.

Despite Villa losing Emi Martinez before kick-off against Feyenoord, they overcame that adversity to ride the storm against the Dutch outfit at De Kuip.

After links away from Villa in mid-week, Emi Buendia gave the away side the lead in the second half with a stunning effort, before John McGinn made it 2-0 with his third goal in as many games.

This is how the score remained as the B6 club maintained their 100 per cent record in Europe this season.

Evann Guessand struggles again for Aston Villa

Guessand was the big-money Villa signing of the summer in what was a difficult transfer window on the financial front.

The Ivory Coast international has failed to live up to expectations so far after what has been a lacklustre start to life in claret and blue.

This trend continued in the Netherlands, as the 24-year-old failed to make his presence felt on the right wing.

The former OGC Nice man did hit the post, but really should have scored in a moment that summed up his Villa career to date.

Guessand registered a zero per cent shot accuracy and was also dispossessed on three occasions as he won just 25 per cent of his attempted duels.

Another night that required a much better performance from the versatile forward, but he was anonymous.

Ezri Konsa was superb vs Feyenoord

There aren’t many more consistently excellent players in the Villa squad than Konsa.

The young centre-half signed from Brentford has become a superb operator at European level and is desperately unlucky not to be playing in the Champions League.

The England international hasn’t let this impact him and has continued to showcase his quality, doing so to a top-class level against Feyenoord.

This saw Konsa keep up a 91 per cent pass accuracy while also completing one dribble with a stunning burst into the home side’s final third.

The 27-year-old also won 100 per cent of his ground duels, driving home just how excellent he was away in the Netherlands.
