‘Can’t get rid’ – Ex-Aston Villa star delivers make-or-break warning to Jadon Sancho
Aston Villa’s summer transfer window left the entire fanbase feeling underwhelmed heading into the new season.
Harvey Elliott has shown promise so far, with the attacking midfielder netting his and Villa’s first goal of the campaign against Brentford.
The other additions to Unai Emery’s squad that have played have all suffered shaky starts, including Jadon Sancho, Evan Guessand and Marco Bizot.
But one former Villa player in particular is sceptical of Sancho’s move to B6.

Stan Collymore labels Jadon Sancho ‘really disappointing’
The stats confirmed that Sancho’s Villa debut was one to forget against Brentford.
As a result of the winger’s lacklustre performance in the Carabao Cup, Sancho is not expected to start against Sunderland when the Villans return to Premier League action on Sunday.
Speaking to 10bet Casino, Collymore claimed he “wasn’t a fan” of Sancho being brought to Villa on deadline day.
“I wasn’t a fan of Jadon Sancho being brought in,” Collymore said.
“I think he’s just one of those players now that Manchester United can’t get rid of, because somebody won’t come up and pony up a big fee or his wages to sign him permanently.
“I remember him breaking on the scene at Manchester City, and then he obviously went over to Dortmund and was firing with the likes of Erling Haaland.
“He joined United for a massive fee. He joined a club that was in disarray, and it wasn’t the right time to go to Manchester United for any player, let alone Sancho, to be honest. He’s been really disappointing since he arrived in the Premier League.”
This season will be the third consecutive one in which the 25-year-old has been loaned out, with the Manchester United player previously being shipped out to Borussia Dortmund and, more recently, Chelsea last season.
Whilst Sancho certainly looked better at both Dortmund and Chelsea, his performances have been nowhere near where they once were in his initial spell at Dortmund before his big-money move to Manchester United.
- Sancho’s best season to date was his 2019/20 campaign, where he scored 17 goals whilst registering 16 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund.
- Since 2021, Sancho has scored a combined 14 league goals across his time at Manchester United, as well as his two loan spells
- If Emery cannot get the best out of Sancho, he may not get another opportunity to play in the Premier League
Collymore is not the only one to have his concerns regarding the move for the winger, with Gabby Agbonlahor not being convinced by Sancho’s arrival.
With Sancho entering the final year of his contract in Manchester, he must prove to Monchi and Co. that he is worthy of moving to Villa on a permanent basis.

Jadon Sancho singing was better than nothing… but that’s about it
When Sancho arrived on deadline day, it was evident that it was a decision made purely based on panic as opposed to pure footballing reasons, by NSWE.
By that point, Villa had left their business too late but were still in need of more attacking reinforcements with the likes of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford leaving Villa over the summer following their loan spells.
In that context, the signing of Sancho on loan was worth the gamble, but it should never have gotten to that point, and a more appropriate signing should have been brought to Villa Park a long time before the club had to turn their attention to Sancho.
