Aston Villa had a dramatic end to their summer transfer window.

With the two England internationals arriving on loan, Villa have an obligation to make Elliott's move permanent next summer, which is conditional on appearances.

Victor Lindelof also signed for Aston Villa on a free, but Gabby Agbonlahor was particularly unconvinced with one of these recruits.

Jadon Sancho singled out as a 'panic buy' by Gabby Agbonlahor

Aston Villa's signing of Sancho is seen as the biggest risk by the Villa Park faithful, and rightly so, given his patchy form across multiple seasons now.

Sancho, 25, spent the last campaign on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United, and although he certainly contributed during his time at Stamford Bridge, he equally did not stand out.

  • Out of Sancho's 31 Premier League appearances last season, 19 of them were starts
  • During his spell in West London, he managed to score three goals in the league whilst setting up four more
  • Chelsea's apparent lack of urgency to bring him back this summer is probably a good indication of how they feel his loan spell went

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast on 2 September, former Villa man Agbonlahor had his say on the move: "You look at Sancho, I look at that as maybe a bit of a panic buy on the last day of the window,

"Didn't work for him really at Chelsea, no other club wanted to pay the wages he's on," he said.

How much will Jadon Sancho earn whilst at Aston Villa?

Villa are expected to pay the bulk of Sancho's wages during his spell in B6, with his parent club Manchester United also expected to cover a smaller portion.

According to Capology, Villa's deal for Sancho will see them pay the winger £200,000 per week, whilst Man United chip in with £50,000 on top of that.

This means that across the season, Villa are expected to pay Sancho around £10.4million.

Although Agbonlahor labelled it as a "panic buy", it could be argued that with Villa leaving their business until say late on in the window, they had no other option.

If Unai Emery can help Sancho rediscover the form he displayed during his initial spell at Borussia Dortmund, then it will look like Villa have pulled off a real coup.

You only need to look at Marcus Rashford to show what can happen on loan at Villa Park.
