Unai Emery could be left with glaring Aston Villa hole amid Amadou Onana transfer news

Aston Villa have supposedly had clubs looking at their best players all summer.

The transfer rumour mill hasn’t been kind to Villa fans this summer with Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn among the players supposedly being targeted by rival teams.

Jacob Ramsey has been sold to Newcastle, but apart from that the Villans have kept hold of all their star players – even accounting for Leon Bailey joining Roma.

However, the transfer window remains open, and now it’s Amadou Onana who could be the subject of a large transfer bid.

Amadou Onana subject of transfer interest from Saudi club Al-Ahli

Aston Villa spent £50m to sign Amadou Onana from Everton last summer. He was a key figure in their midfield last season, making 34 appearances in all competitions.

Onana played 90 minutes in the Premier League opener against Newcastle and remains a key part of Unai Emery’s plans.

However, it’s now being reported that Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli have added him onto their list of transfer targets.

Al-Ahli have already tempted household Premier League names like Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney to Saudi Arabia, and they have the funds to make an eye-catching bid for Onana.

However, it’s believed that the Villans will hold firm, with such little time left in the transfer window to replace their midfield enforcer.

If he does go, it will leave a huge midfield void for Emery to fill.

It’s not the first time Onana has been linked with a Saudi club. Al-Hilal were also linked with a move earlier this summer, although no official bid was made.

Villa fans must be desperate to keep hold of players in final week of transfer window

Aston Villa fans who keep up with transfer gossip must have felt like they’ve been living in a haunted house this summer. Wherever they turn, there’s another news story to frighten them.

Almost every significant Villa player has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Yet, as things stand, Ramsey is the only significant first-team player to be sold.

The transfer window closes on 1 September. If Villa can keep hold of their stars for a few more days and make another couple of quality additions, it could be classed as a productive window.
