Aston Villa Football Club

Aston Villa Football Club were a founding member of the Football League in 1888. Throughout their history, the Villans have competed mainly in the top flight of English football and currently find themselves in the Premier League and Champions League under Unai Emery despite facing relegation to the Championship in 2016.

Aston Villa are among the most historic football clubs in England but have failed to win any major silverware since beating Leeds United in the 1996 League Cup final. Villa have won 15 major titles in their history, ranking them as the seventh most successful club in English football.

Aston Villa’s last cup final appearance came in the 2019/20 season when Dean Smith led the Villans to the League Cup final but fell to a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City at Wembley.

Aston Villa moved into Villa Park in 1900 and have called it home ever since, it has hosted sixteen England internationals at senior level and 55 FA Cup semi-finals, more than any other stadium.

Villa’s first match at Villa Park, then known as Aston Lower Grounds, was a 3-0 friendly win against Blackburn Rovers on April 17 1897.

Villa Park’s capacity is 42,640 but is constantly changing, with a future redevelopment project planning to increase the capacity to over 50,000.
