Unai Emery receives transfer boost as Aston Villa close to PSR ‘wiggle room’ in positive update
Unai Emery could be set for a welcome boost in the transfer market at Aston Villa.
There has been very little incoming activity at Villa Park this summer, with Evann Guessand being Aston Villa’s only outfield signing at this stage of the window.
This comes as Unai Emery’s side have been hamstrung with financial concerns after UEFA slapped Villa with a fine for a SCR breach earlier in the summer.
As a result, outgoing transfers such as Jacob Ramsey’s move to Newcastle United have taken priority as the squad continues to get worse rather than better.
With that being said, the Villans could be set to become more active in the market as the B6 club awaits the green light from elsewhere.

Aston Villa sales could open the door for further transfer spending
With Guessand and Marco Bizot, fans have been left disappointed to see just two fresh faces come through the doors in the Midlands.
That hasn’t necessarily been a surprise as Villa knew they were in for a summer struggle after missing out on Champions League qualification last summer.
This has now resulted in several big-name exits, with the vast majority of those leaving the Villa Park faithful hugely frustrated.
- Leon Bailey – Roma (loan)
- Leander Dendoncker – Real Oviedo
- Jacob Ramsey – Newcastle
- Yasin Ozcan – Anderlecht (loan)
- Enzo Barrenecha – Benfica (loan)
- Kosta Nedeljkovic – RB Leipzig (loan)
- Philippe Coutinho – Vasco Da Gama
Despite this, these departures may prove to be exactly what was needed to make new moves before the end of the summer window on 1 September.
This comes after John Townley suggested on The Claret and Blue podcast (20 August) that four recent sales have allowed for fresh hope in the transfer market for Emery and Co.
He said: “From what we were told, with Villa selling Ramsey, Bailey, Dendoncker and Moreno, there would be some sort of fund that Villa could play with.
“What that looks like, we don’t know, but Villa will have a bit of wiggle room once those deals are all completed.
“Dendoncker was done yesterday on a free transfer, Roma have got in Bailey, and now Moreno to Girona looks to be happening.”
Leon Bailey could unlock Nicolas Jackson signing for Aston Villa
After such a poor campaign last time out, there is little surprise that the Jamaican international was on the chopping block in B6.
This has now seen Bailey depart on loan to Roma, with the Serie A giants holding an option to buy the 28-year-old at the end of the season.
This could prove to be the perfect opportunity for Villa to finally bring in Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, with a loan deal potentially possible this campaign.
Stat (per 90) | Leon Bailey | Nicolas Jackson |
Appearances | 24 | 30 |
Goals | 0.08 | 0.40 |
Assists | 0.16 | 0.20 |
Touches in opposition box | 5.83 | 6.15 |
The Senegal international could prove to be an excellent asset for the Villans under Emery, with his versatility bound to be a box ticked for the claret and blue outfit.
With Bailey’s wages off the books, alongside the likes of Dendoncker, Ramsey and Moreno, there looks to be a slot in the squad ready for Jackson to come in from Stamford Bridge.
