Aston Villa will be livid at FFP as conditions of Nicolas Jackson transfer set
Aston Villa have been keen to wrap up a deal for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Unai Emery has been desperate to strengthen his side this summer, but has so far been running on a shoestring budget as a result of Profit and Sustainability rules.
The Spaniard was keen to bring Jackson to Villa Park before he agreed a move to Chelsea in 2023, moving from Villarreal.
Aston Villa have now revived their interest in Jackson, though an update from West London won’t please the Villans.

Chelsea value Jackson at £50million
So far, Villa’s only notable signing this summer has been Evann Guessand for £23.5million.
Emery had been hoping that the sale of Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle for £40million might have given him some extra cash to bring in new signings.
However, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg on X, due to Financial Fair Play reasons, it’s currently not possible for Villa to pay a transfer fee of over £50million for Jackson.
Villa are continuing to keep an eye on the striker’s situation, but should they make a move, it may have to be a loan deal.
Players Aston Villa have missed out on this summer due to FFP:
- Sverre Nypan to Manchester City £12.5million
- Jesus Rodriguez to Como £17.3million
- Loic Bade
- Alejandro Garnacho
Emery will be growing more and more frustrated this summer, as his side continues to miss out on key assets.
Another injection of cash from the sale of Leon Bailey to Roma is again looking like it will bear no fruit, despite the Villans offloading £120,000-a-week’s worth of wages.
What has Jackson said about Emery?
It is no secret that Emery is a big fan of Jackson.
Despite his turbulent time at Chelsea, the Spaniard has kept faith in his former striker, whom he first introduced to the Villarreal first team in 2021.
“When Unai left, he wanted me to go to Aston Villa, but I was injured,” Jackson told Tribuna in December 2024.
“I wanted to leave because the coach came in. I had to go, but I was injured a little bit in my hamstring. We went there, they checked and said I needed one more month, and they want me now.
“If they want me in one week, two weeks, I was not ready, so they had to cancel the transfer, and I went back.”
Villa had been eager to try and tie down their best assets this summer, with Boubacar Kamara one of those signing a new deal.
With sales not bringing in enough money to make new signings, Emery could again prioritise keeping the likes of Ollie Watkins at Villa Park and move away from a deal for Jackson.
Hopefully, some movement in the final two weeks of the window can open the door.
