‘Embarrassing’ Jack Grealish statistic shared after completing loan move to Everton

Aston Villa have given their fans some fantastic memories since selling Jack Grealish to Manchester City for £100million.

Villa made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season. They’re among the favourites to win the Europa League this year after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

It’s easy to forget that Villa were still finding their feet in the top flight when they sold Grealish to Manchester City.

The money from that sale went a long way to building the successful Aston Villa team of today.

Grealish statistic highlights his struggles at Manchester City

Grealish has plenty of medals to show for his time at Manchester City, although he hasn’t been playing as often as he’d like.

He won’t be happy with the number of goals and assists he has been contributing either.

Shortly before Grealish confirmed his loan move to Everton, ESPN released these statistics showing that he still hasn’t been able to eclipse the number of goal contributions he made in his final season at Aston Villa.

Grealish scored seven goals and registered ten assists for Aston Villa in the 2020-21 season. In the 2022-23 season, he came close ot beating the figures, notching 16 goal contributions in 50 appearances.

In his other seasons, he has registered just ten, six and eight goal contributions respectively.

Grealish still has time to regain peak form

Manchester City has been far more successful than Aston Villa in every metric since Grealish’s transfer.

They’ve won more games, scored more goals and lifted more trophies, but that’s what makes Grealish’s goal contributions figures so embarrassing.

Manchester City were Premier League champions in three of Grealish’s four seasons at Manchester City, so why couldn’t he eclipse the contribution record made when Villa finished 11th in 2020-21?

Some say Guardiola’s rigid tactics for squeezing the flair out of Grealish. He used to be a player who had the freedom to express himself at Villa Park. At Manchester City, he was nothing more than a cog in a well-oiled system.

In the last couple of years, he:

Grealish had been linked with a move back to Villa Park earlier in the summer, although nothing came of those rumours.

He’ll likely be given more freedom to play the game how he sees fit at Everton. He’ll be hoping this move can help him regain his peak form, which arguably hasn’t been seen since he last donned a Villa shirt.
