Aston Villa’s stance on Jacob Ramsey surely revealed after Unai Emery’s latest transfer move

Jacob Ramsey is attracting significant interest from several Premier League clubs, with the midfielder’s departure not yet ruled out.

Everton and West Ham have been linked with a move, but the 23-year-old’s sights appear to be set on a move to Newcastle United.

Newcastle have opened talks for Ramsey, who would go down as pure profit in terms of the Profit and Sustainability Rules, if he is sold.

Villa’s Ramsey stance revealed by Marco Asensio interest

Aston Villa are reportedly weighing up a deal to re-sign Marco Asensio, with the forward having spent the second half of last season at Villa Park.

The Spaniard impressed in his short time in England, scoring eight goals and providing an assist in just 21 appearances.

But Villa had looked set to allow Asensio to remain at PSG, with Unai Emery’s squad already stacked with the 29-year-old’s profile.

Interest in Ramsey appears to have shifted that stance, however, with Villa now exploring a deal to re-sign the forward, according to The Telegraph’s John Percy via X (12 August).

Asensio has just one year remaining on his deal at the Parc des Princes, and could be available on a loan deal or permanently this summer.

The interest would suggest Ramsey’s move to Newcastle is edging closer, with Villa appearing to now be open to the England youth international’s departure.

The Villans had been attempting to tie Ramsey down to fresh terms, but negotiations look to have hit an impasse.

What did Unai Emery say about Marco Asensio?

Emery was not shy of publicly displaying his fondness for Asensio last season.

When asked about the forward’s quick adaptation following his goal against Club Brugge, the head coach said: “It’s not a surprise. It’s a little different, the adaptation of the players. Some faster than others.

“In the case of Marco Asensio, he’s performing very well. He’s adapting so quick.”

And after the 29-year-old had scored a brace against Chelsea, Emery said: “Marco is a very good player as a number 10. He can play in both situations. He can play assisting and scoring goals.”

A reunion between the two Spaniards would seem likely, with Villa set to receive a player who has already proved he can perform in claret and blue, and for what will likely be a very cheap price.
