Aston Villa give West Ham transfer answer amid Jacob Ramsey interest

Aston Villa have now made a decision over Jacob Ramsey’s future, with the midfielder attracting interest from elsewhere.

Ramsey has two years to run on his current contract, and could have been a candidate to be sold for pure profit in a PSR boost.

Aston Villa have made just one significant signing so far in Evann Guessand, and a big sale of Ramsey could have funded further additions.

However, Unai Emery appears keen on keeping the 24-year-old at Aston Villa, and a big decision has now been made.

Aston Villa offer contract to Ramsey

Ramsey has been linked with West Ham in recent weeks with a reported asking price of £42 million, but it now appears that this move may no longer be on the cards.

John Townley has now reported that Villa have offered Ramsey a new contract, which would tie him down to Villa Park for the foreseeable future.

Ramsey is reportedly keen to stay at Villa, and this should ensure that an agreement is found between the player and club to keep him there.

West Ham and Nottingham Forest are both keen on Ramsey, but it now appears that they will have to look elsewhere as Villa intend to keep him.

Ramsey set for Villa progression

Ramsey saw his gametime drop with just 19 Premier League starts last season, but this is now set to change as he takes on a key role.

With Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio no longer at the club, he will have less obstacles in his pathway to game time, both on the wings and in the centre.

The Englishman predominantly featured on the left wing last season, but was occasionally left on the bench with Rashford or John McGinn preferred.

McGinn also looks set to stay after a bid was rejected for him, and Villa will now hope that both can stay fit to contribute well over the course of next season.

Ramsey has made 167 appearances for Villa, and could be seen as the successor to McGinn both in terms of midfield role as well as a potential future captain.
