Chevalier agrees PSG deal – Three goalkeepers Aston Villa could sign instead

Aston Villa will need to hunt for alternatives now that Lucas Chevalier is set to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Villans were interested in adding Chevalier to their ranks, so long as Emi Martinez was sold this summer.

But as Villa dragged their feet, PSG hit the gas with the French club reportedly having agreed terms with Lille for their star keeper.

With Martinez still expected to leave Villa Park, the club will have to identify an alternative before the window closes.

Gianluigi Donnarumma – PSG

When one door shuts, another one opens, and Villa could find themselves adding Gianluigi Donnarumma to their list of possible transfers.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri on Monday (28 July), PSG will hold a meeting this week to finalise the Italian’s departure.

It is understood that the Parisian club will not act as an obstacle and has opened the door to negotiations with other clubs. Chelsea and Galatasaray are among those most interested in a deal.

However, now that Chevalier is seemingly off the table, Villa could be tempted to accelerate their pursuit of the PSG keeper. As a result, it will be one to keep an eye on as the summer continues to unfold.

Andriy Lunin – Real Madrid

It has been widely reported that Thibaut Courtois has agreed to a new contract at Real Madrid until June 2027.

As a result, Andriy Lunin is set to wait a little longer before becoming their number one.

After his heroics during the Spanish club’s successful UEFA Champions League campaign during the 2023/24 season, he could be eager to accept more than another two years as a rotational option.

This could convince the Ukrainian goalkeeper to undertake a new challenge if given the chance, and life in the Premier League playing for a competitive team could be a good start.

Villa have already been linked to Lunin this summer and should consider bringing the Madrid keeper to Villa Park.

Stefan Ortega – Manchester City

Manchester City are set to re-sign James Trafford from Burnley two years after he left the club.

The arrival of Trafford has put the futures of Ederson and Stefan Ortega in jeopardy, with both keepers linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer.

Villa should take advantage of this uncertain situation to pursue Ortega, who has shown more promise out of the two in recent years.

Indeed, after a disappointing season in the Premier League, it looks like Ederson could be past his best. As a result, the Villans should consider Ortega to replace Martinez this summer.
