‘Aston Villa must turn their back on Martinez deal’ amid disrespectful update

Emi Martinez continues to be linked with an Aston Villa exit this summer.

There is no getting away from the fact that a departure is seemingly growing in likelihood for the Argentina international.

After a stellar five-season spell at Villa Park, the 32-year-old has constantly been linked to Manchester United in recent weeks.

With that being said, any sort of deal now needs to be totally ignored by Monchi and Co. as disrespect begins to creep into negotiations.

Man United make ludicrous Martinez offer

The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for big money this summer, so it is clear that money isn’t a problem right now.

That hasn’t stopped the Old Trafford club from delaying negotiations for the ex-Arsenal keeper, with a lack of a reasonable offer to this point.

As a result, it is no surprise that the Argentine has remained in B6 to this point of the summer, moving deeper into pre-season.

Now, Ruben Amorim’s side have gone one step too far in their disrespect for Aston Villa after making an offer to sign Martinez on loan [Dominic King, 21 July].

This comes despite the Villans making it clear that they value their number one at £40million, a fee which United clearly haven’t come close to matching.

With that in mind, Unai Emery needs to show that the Villans aren’t here to be walked over and blocking Man United from signing the keeper at all could be a huge power play in the market.

Aston Villa can’t allow Man United to walk over them again

In the past two years, the Villans have finished fourth and sixth in the Premier League, securing European qualification in both.

This has seen them finish above the Red Devils on two occasions, with Amorim carrying his side to a hugely disappointing debut finish of 15th.

As a result, it would make little sense for Villa to be selling to a side nine places away from them in the table at the end of the prior season.

Having lost star names like Ashley Young, Mark Bosnich and Dwight Yorke to United in the past, keeping Martinez could represent a true turning point in B6.

Turning the Reds away and refusing to let the world’s number one depart to Old Trafford makes complete sense and would be well received by the claret and blue faithful.
