‘Monchi drops the ball at Aston Villa’ as £19.1m deal set for completion
Monchi will have questions to answer at Aston Villa at this early stage of the window.
The Spaniard is set for yet another turbulent summer at Bodymoor Heath, just as he did 12 months ago due to financial problems.
With that being said, the Villans proved that they did have money to spend with the likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen coming in for sizable fees.
That may be replicated this summer, and as a result, the news of a £19.1million deal is bound to leave many frustrated around Villa Park.

Monchi must answer questions at Aston Villa
There have been a number of high-profile transfer links in the Midlands at this early stage of the window, despite no deals going through as of yet.
This has seen Alejandro Garnacho strongly mooted with a Villa move after being embroiled in high controversy at Manchester United.
The Argentine isn’t the only winger who has been targeted in B6, with that area seemingly near the top of the priority list for the summer.
One target is Real Betis talent Jesus Rodriguez, with the Spain under-21 international being linked with a switch to Villa Park this summer.
This has even seen potential swap deals mooted with Alex Moreno or Enzo Barrenechea potentially set to go the other way to LaLiga.
It appears that Monchi has missed out on the 19-year-old, with Como set to sign the winger in an initial £19.1m deal as final details look set to be agreed [Fabrizio Romano, 26 June].
This is likely to represent a blow to the President of Football Operations at Villa Park, with one target already opting to move elsewhere.

Rodriguez to snub Aston Villa in £19.1m move
As mentioned, there have already been a number of winger targets mooted in B6, although the Betis youngster felt like an Unai Emery-type player.
To bring in a young player with a bright future who already has senior appearances under his belt looked likely to be a positive addition, especially with the Europa League in mind.
Stat (LaLiga 24/25) | Jesus Rodriguez |
Appearances | 21 |
Successful dribbles | 30 |
Duels won | 87 |
Fouls won | 38 |
Now it appears that other options will have to be assessed, with the wide man set to complete a move to Serie A with Cesc Fabregas’ side.
It can be said that Monchi has dropped the ball at Bodymoor, although the fans will trust the hierarchy to get the transfers right when the decisions are set to be made.
