Marco Asensio transfer unlocked as Aston Villa ready another signing

Marco Asensio’s transfer to Aston Villa has now been “unlocked” after Paris Saint-Germain freed up a loan spot, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist posted on X (3 February) that having sold Cher Ndour – previously on loan at Besiktas this season – to Fiorentina on Sunday, PSG can allow Asensio to take up their last loan spot.

Asensio has already undergone a medical ahead of his switch to Villa Park for the rest of the season, and Ndour’s permanent transfer means that the Spaniard’s temporary move is set to be greenlit.

Having already wrapped up the signature of Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, Villa are on the brink of announcing a second headline loan signing in as many days once Asensio’s move is completed.

Asensio is set to take up a loan spot on PSG’s books until the end of the season, but that could be elongated due to the Villans having an option to extend the switch by a further year come the summer [David Ornstein, 2 February].

The Spain international, who rose to fame as part of Real Madrid’s multiple Champions League-winning team, could prove to be a sensation in claret and blue, as Villa look to bolster their attacking options.

Donyell Malen has proven to be the first of many new faces in the Lions’ frontline this winter, but given Villa have lost Jaden Philogene and top scorer Jhon Duran, reinforcements were certainly needed.

The final hours of the transfer window are fast approaching, but with that stumbling block on PSG’s end now resolved, expect Villa’s announcement of Asensio’s arrival to be imminent.
