Aston Villa to hold talks with exit-linked striker after Unai Emery admission

Aston Villa are expected to hold talks with Louie Barry amid ongoing transfer speculation.

Barry has been linked with an exit from Villa Park in January [via The Telegraph, 1 January], with suggestions that his sale could fetch a fee of up to £10million for the West Midlands club.

Derby County are one of the sides interested in a loan deal [via Alan Nixon on Patreon, 6 January], while there have even been suggestions that Barry could join Birmingham City temporarily.

However, according to Unai Emery [via BBC Sport, 10 January], Villa intend to come up with a “new plan” for the young striker, and ex-Villa scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has speculated what this might mean.

“I’d imagine that Barry could still be sent out on loan again,” King said.

“However, perhaps this time to a club higher up in the leagues. When Emery talks about this new plan, I expect that there will be discussions held between Barry and the club.

“I can’t see Barry getting a chance at Villa at the moment, not with Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran around. It will be very difficult for him to break into the first team. Perhaps he will continue to train with the first team and be kept around should Watkins or Duran leave. However, we will have to wait and see.”

Aston Villa to hold talks with exit-linked striker Louie Barry?

Barry was in sensational form while on loan with Stockport County during the first half of the season. Therefore, it is no surprise that Villa decided to recall him to the club.

However, it remains to be seen what Emery’s side intend to do with the 21-year-old. It is unlikely that Barry will get much playing time this season considering the form of Watkins and Duran.

However, selling him could also be a mistake, in case one of Watkins or Duran were to move on. As a result, a decision must be made, and talking to the youngster about his future would be a good first step toward making that decision.
