Sunderland named as next destination for Aston Villa player
Sunderland look to best option to sign Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry in the January transfer window, according to Carlton Palmer.
The former English midfielder believes the 21-year-old should join the Black Cats for regular game time amid interest from elsewhere.
The Villans are looking to sell the forward after his return from Stockport County [The Telegraph, 1 January], and the Stadium of Light would be the right destination for him.
Speaking to Football League World [3 January], Palmer said: “If I was Louie Barry, I would be looking at where I can get first-team football, where I fancy my chances to play regularly at a club that will give young players a chance, and that’s Sunderland at this moment in time.”
Sunderland the right fit for Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry
Sunderland does seem like a right fit for Barry, with Regis Le Bris working wonders at the Tyneside outfit.
The Championship outfit are in the race for promotion to the Premier League, and the 21-year-old could soon find himself back in the English top flight if he were to leave Aston Villa.
Romaine Mundle has been absent for some time now, and the Black Cats have been looking for alternatives in their squad.
The Villans are eyeing Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen [Ben Jacobs, 2 January], and Barry will find game time hard to come by at Villa Park.

Aston Villa could invest the money they get from the 21-year-old’s sale to bolster their squad in the winter window.
The Lions have had an inconsistent season so far, and Unai Emery likely needs more squad depth to handle the packed schedule that is coming up.
The England Under-18s international would seemingly be a good fit for Le Bris’ team, but what the future holds for him remains to be seen.
In other Aston Villa news, Leon Bailey could be set for an exit after recent developments with transfers.
