Aston Villa ‘concern’ claim made after Ian Maatsen injury development
Bryan King claims any injury to an Aston Villa player will be of “concern” to Unai Emery and the club.
The ex-Villa scout, however, doesn’t believe that the absence of Ian Maatsen will be of “major concern” to Emery.
As reported by Birmingham Live (12 November), Maatsen has withdrawn from the Netherlands Under-21 squad due to an injury.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – doesn’t suspect the injury to be that serious.
“Any injury is a concern for Villa and Emery,” King said.
“However, Maatsen has mostly been used as cover this season. He isn’t in Emery’s top 11 or 12 players at the club.
“Therefore, I’d imagine this isn’t a major concern. In addition, Maatsen’s injury can’t be that serious.
“If it was serious, he wouldn’t have gone away on international duty in the first place. Perhaps it is a tweak, or a little stretch or something of that nature.
Aston Villa left-back Ian Maatsen provides fresh injury concern for Unai Emery
Maatsen, perhaps to the surprise of many, has mostly been used as a squad player since arriving at Villa Park. Therefore, Emery is unlikely to be majorly concerned about this injury, especially if it is only minor.
However, that being said, the Spaniard cannot afford to have too many of his defenders ruled out.

As a result, after a recent injury scare emerged regarding Pau Torres (via SEFutbol on X, 13 November), the news of Maatsen’s setback has perhaps become slightly more troubling.
In other Aston Villa news, the club must ready a £25million contract to finalise one transfer.
