Unai Emery will be rather concerned over Pau Torres after the Aston Villa defender withdrew from the Spain national squad on Wednesday.

The Spain national team confirmed the news via their official X account [13 November], citing "muscular discomfort" as the reason for this departure from the camp, hoping to avoid further injury.

Torres was set to take on Denmark and Switzerland in a Nations League double-header but will now head back to Villa Park, likely to be assessed by the medical staff back at the club.

The 27-year-old has been a key figure for Emery so far this season, starting all 11 of Villa's Premier League matches and three of their four Champions League clashes to date.

Luckily for the manager, Tyrone Mings is on his way back to full fitness, and with Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos available, the new injury concern is not a massive problem, but Emery will still fear the worst.

Aston Villa to be without Pau Torres after Spain national team exit?

Torres has been a regular for Villa over the past two seasons and has been key so far this term, maintaining an 87 per cent passing accuracy, a 92 per cent dribbling success and winning 80 per cent of his tackles in the Premier League [FotMob].

His best performance of the campaign came in the impressive 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, grabbing an assist, winning 100 per cent of his tackles (4/4) and 100 per cent of his ground duels, and also made four recoveries [FotMob].

The centre-half also ranks in the top 96 percentile for progressive carries and the top 97 percentile for successful take-ons [FBref], making him integral to Villa's build-up play with attacks.

While alarm bells will not yet be ringing for the Villans, Emery will want him back at Villa Park as soon as possible to assess the damage to his favoured centre-back.
