Aston Villa handed ‘blow’ as Unai Emery drops John McGinn injury update
Bryan King claims John McGinn’s absence will be a “blow” for Unai Emery and Aston Villa.
The ex-Villa scout has described the 29-year-old as “an important part of the club”.
McGinn picked up a hamstring injury during the 3-1 victory over Wolves at Villa Park on Saturday (21 September).
After the match, Emery revealed that he expects McGinn to be out of action for “a few weeks” (via The Athletic, 21 September).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes that Emery has a squad which can cope with the absence of the Scotland international.
“This is certainly a blow for Villa and Emery,” King said.
“However, Villa have had to play without him before. He is an important part of the club, that is for sure, and they will have to see just how bad this injury is.
“However, I think they have players ready to step in. I think that has been Emery’s aim ever since he has been there, to have a good squad of players.”
John McGinn set for a spell on the sidelines at Aston Villa
McGinn is a key player at Villa Park. The Scotland international has featured in all five Premier League matches this season, as well as the club’s one Champions League fixture, in which he grabbed an assist.
Therefore, to lose the midfielder to injury so early in the season will be frustrating for Emery.
If McGinn is out for a few weeks, the midfielder could miss matches against both Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
Those are two very tough games in which Villa could be without a key player. Therefore, Emery will be keen to get McGinn back as soon as possible, so that he doesn’t miss more crucial matches.

It is perhaps as ironic as it is frustrating for McGinn that he picked up an injury in the week where he shared concerns about player welfare due to the increasing number of matches they are being asked to play.
In other Aston Villa news, one player at the club could be set for his first senior international call-up after his performance against Wolves.
