Aston Villa to make move for Conor Gallagher after Chelsea transfer development

Dan Bardell has suggested that Aston Villa might press ahead in their transfer pursuit of Conor Gallagher now Chelsea have completed the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Italian journalist Gabriele Marcotti has reported to ESPN (7 July) that the England midfielder is set to be “gone” from Stamford Bridge after the £30million deal sign Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City (BBC Sport, 2 July).

The Villans have been mooted as an interested party throughout the summer and a deal for Dewsbury-Hall might make a sale more of a possibility.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that Villa could still look to sign him but a move might come later in the transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I would say that Gallagher is more aggressive and better at pressing.

Dewsbury-Hall is probably better on the ball so he covers Chelsea if Gallagher does go. It is going to be interesting to see what happens with him and Villa this summer.

Is still think Villa have the space in their squad for a senior, Premier League midfielder and Emery likes him.

I would expect, in a couple of weeks or after the Euros, that we’d know what is going to happen with Gallagher. With a year left on his contract I wouldn’t rule out Villa making a move for him.

Aston Villa still interested in Conor Gallagher

Unai Emery will be keen to prepare his squad in the transfer window with Champions League football coming up next season.

After losing Douglas Luiz to Juventus already this summer, the Villans will be keen to keep hold of their stars ahead of a tilt at Europe’s premier competition.

The Brazilian will need replacing such was his importance in the squad over the years at Villa Park and Gallagher could be a useful option.

The Englishman has featured regularly at Euro 2024 under Gareth Southgate and was a standout in a Chelsea side that often flattered to deceive last season.

It must be said that the Englishman wouldn’t represent a like-for-like replacement for Luiz but would add a point of difference to the Villa midfield.

With Boubacar Kamara set to be out for many months, Gallagher could be lining up alongside the likes of Youri Tielemans or Ross Barkley next season.

This would form a midfield with plenty of energy but maybe misses the defensive solidity that Emery will be looking to maintain.
