Aston Villa reunion with Jaden Philogene dismissed after new transfer development

Dan Bardell doesn’t think Aston Villa will re-sign Jaden Philogene this summer amid Premier League transfer links.

According to reports from BBC Sport (4 July), Ipswich Town are hopeful of signing the English winger with Everton and West Ham also interested.

The 22-year-old departed Villa Park last summer in a move to Hull City despite featuring regularly across pre-season.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Villa are unlikely to try and sign Philogene given the heights that Unai Emery has hit without him.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think Villa are done with him. I really like him and he’s a good player and had a great season with Hull.

Villa are in the Champions League now and have kind of accelerated away from him now. I think he would be better suited to someone like Everton or Ipswich to allow him to apply his trade in the Premier League.

Even with the Barcelona links, I think he’ll definitely be playing in the Premier League next season but it won’t be with Villa I wouldn’t think.

Aston Villa could reunite with Jaden Philogene

It did come as a surprise to Villa fans that the Englishman was sold last year after such a positive pre-season campaign.

Philogene featured in the Villans’ opening-day defeat against Newcastle as he came off the bench in a 5-1 defeat last season.

There was plenty of clamour ahead of the game among fans that they wanted the youngster to start, representative of just how good he had looked in preseason.

A move to Hull made sense from an FFP point of view as the Englishman represented pure profit for the balance sheet at Villa Park.

With this being said, there is no surprise that the 22-year-old has been linked with a Premier League move this summer.

Villa may have a buy-back clause in his contract, but that has not been reported. If they do, it could be wise to re-sign him.

With the options that the Villans already have available and with Emi Buendia returning, there may not be a need for Philogene.
