Aston Villa: Broadcaster thrilled after ‘surreal’ development emerged at Villa Park
Aston Villa playing and beating Ajax in the Europa Conference League was a “surreal moment” for Ty Bracey.
After a goalless draw in the first leg in Amsterdam, Villa secured a 4-0 victory over the Dutch giants at Villa Park on 14 March.
That has set up a quarter-final tie against Lille, where Unai Emery’s side will be looking to book a place in the final four of the competition against either Fenerbahce or Olympiakos.
Bracey believes it’s good to play the French side, who he believes are probably the second favourites to lift the trophy, in the next round as it’s best to get them out the way before the final.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It was a great result. It’s a common theme for us to get roasted by a team and then roast someone else the week after. It’s becoming classic Villa this season.
“They had a red card, but we were all over them and we showed why we’re in the position that we’re in. I’m over the moon that we got it done. It’s still a bit surreal that we were playing Ajax.
“The draw is a great fixture against Lille. They are probably the second favourites behind Villa, so I’d rather us get it out of the way now than play them in the final.

“I think if we beat Lille, that puts us on course to, hopefully, go on and win it. It would be Fenerbahce or Olympiakos in the next round and they’re no pushovers.
“But I’d like to think we could go all the way.”
Aston Villa have what it takes to taste European glory
It was an excellent performance from Villa against Ajax as they just had far too much quality for the Dutch side at Villa Park.
As Bracey points out, there could be some difficult fixtures ahead for them before they can lift the trophy, but they will be confident that they can go all the way.
Emery’s side have had an extremely positive season so far and ending it with some silverware would be the perfect reward for their efforts.
