Alisha Lehmann sends one-word message to Rachel Daly after Aston Villa Women heroics v Sheffield United
Alisha Lehmann has sent a one-word message to Rachel Daly after Aston Villa Women defeated Sheffield United 5-0.
Forward Daly netted a hat-trick in the FA Women’s Super League (WSL) Cup match between the two clubs on Wednesday (8 November).
Ebony Salmon and Danielle Turner were also on the scoresheet in the Group A encounter, which represented the club’s first win of the season.
Taking to social media to celebrate the three goals and the 5-0 victory, Daly posted on Instagram: “One step at a time.”
Among those commenting on the social media post was Daly’s Aston Villa Women teammate Lehmann, who wrote: “Ninjaaaaaa.”
Top performance
Aston Villa Women really needed to up their game against the Blades given how poorly they have started the new season.
The club have lost all five of their WSL matche so far, losing to Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea.
It has been a harsh welcome back to action, with those results leaving Villa sitting rock bottom of the table on zero points.
But the cup meeting with Sheffield United provided a welcome break from the WSL, and allowed the players to gain some much-needed confidence. And that is exactly what they got given that they managed to score five times as well as keeping a clean sheet.
Attacker Daly was in superb form on the night, banging in three goals before being handed a well deserved rest on the bench.
She will be keen to continue that scoring form in the rest of the cup games, with Villa also set to meet Durham, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers in Group A.
