Douglas Luiz sends three-word message to Aston Villa Women ace Alisha Lehmann
Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has sent a three-word message to Aston Villa Women forward Alisha Lehmann.
The latter is currently on international duty with Switzerland, who take on Spain in the UEFA Women’s Nations League on Tuesday (31 October).
The attacker started as her nation lost 1-0 away to Sweden on Friday (27 October) in the group stages of the competition.
The Midlands outfit sit joint-bottom of the Women’s Super League (WSL), having lost all four of their matches so far this season.
The forward took to Instagram to share images of the latest international break, with Aston Villa midfielder Luiz commenting: “AL7 on fire.”
Poor start
Aston Villa Women have had a very difficult start to the new WSL season, with Carla Ward’s side losing to Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.
They have scored just four goals from those four matches, conceding on 10 occasions, with Bristol City the only team below Aston Villa Women in the table due to their inferior goal difference.
The international break may then have come at the right time for the Midlands club, who need to reset and start their season over. They have the chance to do that against Chelsea, with that home clash scheduled for Saturday (4 November).
Lehmann is yet to get off the mark for her club this season, although minutes on the pitch have been hard to come by for the player.
The Switzerland attacker will be desperate to come back and make a difference, but for now her immediate focus is on getting a win for her country. That will be very tricky, however, with recent Women’s World Cup winners Spain their next opponents.
In other Aston Villa Women news, Ward’s players were “miles off it” in the recent defeat to Liverpool Women, according to two exclusive Aston Villa Women experts.
