Aston Villa work on deal to sign Italy star Nicolo Zaniolo, Monchi to lead talks - Fabrizio Romano
Aston Villa are working on a deal to sign Galatasaray midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Sky Sports Italy journalist tweeted on 10 August that a deal for the 24-year-old is a “concrete possibility being discussed” and that he is one of the top names on the club’s list of transfer targets.
He said Villa director Monchi, who signed the Italy international at Roma from Inter, is heading up the negotiations with the Super Liga side.
Another one
This is another potential signing that could raise a few eyebrows around the league if Villa can get a deal over the line for Zaniolo this summer.
They have already secured the additions of Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres and Moussa Diaby, with each of those players being linked with big moves in recent years.
The Italian attacking midfielder is another one that falls into that category after he was named the Serie A Young Player of the Year for the 2018-19 campaign and earned his first call-up to the national team in 2018.
After scoring 24 goals and laying on 18 assists in 128 games for Roma, he was held back by injury problems before making the move in February of this year to Galatasaray, where he has scored five goals in 12 matches.
Having signed the 6’3″ midfielder during his time in the Italian capital, Monchi should be an influential figure in potentially persuading him to make the move to Villa Park during this transfer window.
In other Aston Villa news, Jamie Carragher said Villa have made an “unbelievable signing” this summer.
