Aston Villa advance in talks to sign Pau Torres as Villarreal negotiations enter key stage - Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa are pushing to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres according to Fabrizio Romano.

Unai Emery is keen on reuniting with the defender who he managed at Villarreal prior to his switch to the Premier League and Villa Park.

And according to Italian journalist Romano (29 June), a deal between the Spanish club and Villa for Torres is edging closer.

“Aston Villa are advancing in talks to sign Pau Torres. Deal not completed yet but progressing to key stages between the two clubs,” Romano tweeted.

“Bayern decided to go for Kim as priority and Villa now pushing to sign Pau — as Unai Emery wants him.”

Wow

This would be a fantastic signing for Aston Villa and therefore comes as a very exciting update.

Torres has been one of Europe’s top centre halves for several years now and has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in the continent. For Villa to be competing for the signature of a Bayern Munich target shows just how far they have come.

A lot of credit has to be given to Emery if the club are able to pull off this signing. The manager’s previous relationship with the player is the clear driving force behind this move and Torres’ arrival would be a real sign of intent from the Villains.

The club will return to Europe for the first time in over a decade next year after finishing seventh in the Premier League last season and earning a spot in the UEFA Conference League.

With signings like Torres, fans will be confident they could lift the trophy.
