Aston Villa won't hesitate to splash over £50m as Sky Sports share Federico Chiesa transfer development
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton doubts Aston Villa will be able to sign Federico Chiesa but is delighted to see his former club showing an interest in the Juventus star.
Sky Sport Italia reported on 22 June that Villa were ready to bid £51.2million to sign the 25-year-old winger, who’s also on the radar of Newcastle United.
However, it was claimed that while Villa were keen on Chiesa, the Italy international wasn’t sold on a move to Villa Park.
Hutton believes that while would take a lot of convincing to get Chiesa to agree to a move to B6, just showing an interest in the ex-Fiorentina forward is encouraging.
“I think they will [spend that kind of money] if they can get someone like that through the door,” Hutton told Villa News.
“I don’t think it would faze them.
“You’d need to try and sell Aston Villa to Chiesa if I’m honest.
“You know how much I love Villa and I’d love to see big names there. But I just don’t think they’re quite there yet.
“They’re making steady progress, they’ve been absolutely amazing.
“I think year on year, they’re going to get better and hopefully, they’re going to challenge for those top six or top-four places regularly.
“I really rate Chiesa as a footballer.
“It’s probably an area where they can strengthen and that is probably the next-level player.
“To get someone like that through the door would be outstanding.
“He’s going to have options that are top-tier, put it that way.
“It’ll take a lot of convincing to get him.”
Chiesa scored four goals and supplied six assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for Juventus last season.
Villa have completed one signing so far this summer with Youri Tielemans due to arrive on a free transfer on 1 July.
In other Aston Villa news, Monchi is already said to be in talks behind the scenes with this Villa Park man.
