Kortney Hause surely finished at Aston Villa after injury setback

It’s been an extremely tough campaign for Aston Villa defender Kortney Hause – and it’s difficult to envisage the 27-year-old making an impact moving forward.

Hause spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Watford in the Championship. However, it was a spell to forget. The Englishman only made three appearances for the Hornets before returning to Villa in February. The Athletic reported on 10 February that Hause had returned to the West Midlands to begin his rehabilitation on a knee injury.

The long-standing injury has had a damaging effect on Hause’s chances of making an impact at Aston Villa. The 2022/23 season was the perfect chance for the defender to stake a claim by impressing for Watford in the second tier.

He’s at an age where it was a case of last-chance saloon at Villa. With Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos and Ezri Konsa all ahead of him, it’s hard to see him being given a chance by Unai Emery when he does return to full fitness. Hause is contracted to the Villans until 2025 and a summer exit would feel like the most suitable route for everyone concerned.

A move back to the Championship would be the smartest move. He’s physically dominant and more than capable of making an impact for a successful EFL side. Furthermore, due to the length left on his current deal, Villa could earn a decent fee for the central defender.

His departure would also free up funds for Emery to utilise in the transfer market. The Spaniard has made a remarkable start to life at Villa Park and will be hoping to continue his fine work during the off-season. With Villa now in the Conference League, it’s absolutely essential for squad depth to be added.

Three or four quality additions will have the Villans in good shape heading into the 2023/24 campaign.
