View: Philippe Coutinho stinks with 1/10 – Aston Villa player ratings vs Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa were held to another draw against Nottingham Forest on Monday night as Steven Gerrard’s side missed the chance to move into the top half of the table.
Villa fell behind after poor marking from a set-piece when Emmanuel Dennis headed home, but they equalised quickly through a stunning Ashley Young strike from 25 yards out.
Ollie Watkins had a goal disallowed for offside as the team pushed forward for a second, in what was a feisty affair between two sides at the wrong end of the table.
Both sides pushed for a winning goal but clear cut chances were few and far between and in the end they had to settle for a share of the points each.
Here is how Aston Villa News rated the performance of each player in the game against Nottingham Forest..
Emiliano Martinez – 6/10
Had very little to do in the game truth be told. His organisation was good and he could do nothing about the goal he conceded, so would be harsh to rate him any lower than this.
Matty Cash – 6/10
In his first game back from injury it was as if he hadn’t missed a beat. Had great energy up and down the flank and got in behind on a few occasions, but his final ball let him down too often.
Ezri Konsa – 6/10
Konsa should’ve done better when defending in the box for their goal but outside of that he was solid in possession and forward-thinking with his defending in open play.
Tyrone Mings – 5/10
Mings fought back from criticisms this season but he gave away a needless free-kick in the first half and then didn’t do his job marking the forwards to gift Forest their goal. Played well after that, but it essentially cost Villa points here.
Ashley Young – 7/10
A stunning goal and a constant threat from left-back, but he was let down by his lack of a left foot in overlapping situations. Defended well throughout though and deservedly the man of the match for his side.
Douglas Luiz – 5/10
Defensively did really well in a game that was full of transitions but was lucky not to be sent off for a potential headbutt on Brennan Johnson for no reason whatsoever. Just had to pick his passes better in the attacking thirds of the pitch.
John McGinn – 4/10
Another poor showing from the skipper and it’s becoming hard to justify his spot in the starting lineup each week. He was full of energy as usual, but his passing was below par and he continuously made the wrong decisions before being subbed with the team chasing a winner.
Jacob Ramsey – 4/10
He started well but quickly drifted into nothingness, with his biggest moments in the game coming in two scuffles with the latter getting him a booking for his troubles. Not good enough for someone as talented as he is.
Philippe Coutinho – 1/10
Another shocking showing from the Brazilian, as he continues to baffle people whenever he’s picked to start games. Offered nothing in either direction and was rightly hooked after just 64 minutes.
Emiliano Buendia – 4/10
Buendia was lively and constantly trying to make things happen, but he struggled to do that. His final pass was poor too often and with Forest keeping men behind the ball he struggled to make any real impact on the game.
Ollie Watkins – 5/10
Constantly running in behind and being a nuisance to defenders, but without any real service there wasn’t much more he could do. Was dangerous when moved out to the wing too, but Villa just can’t find goals when they need them most right now.
Substitutes
Danny Ings – 4/10
Came on with enough time to affect the game but just didn’t do it, and wouldn’t have helped his chances of starting the next game ahead of Watkins.
Leander Dendoncker – N/A
Cameron Archer – N/A
