Alan Hutton: Jacob Ramsey should be part of Aston Villa long-term plans

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park

Jacob Ramsey’s stock has been on the rise in recent years and Alan Hutton feels that he should be part of the long-term plans at Aston Villa.

Jamie Carragher has suggested (via Twitter, 25 September) that Ramsey will be world-class in the future, but is not quite ready for the England squad.

The 21-year-old will undoubtedly have bigger clubs looking at him and Hutton feels that he is a big part of Villa’s future.

“I don’t think Villa will be willing to let him leave but they have their own objectives of becoming a top-half team and building on it year on year,” Hutton exclusively told Villa News.

“They’ve got their own objectives of becoming a top-half team and they will want Ramsey to be a big part of that moving forward.

“If he keeps performing like he is at a high level then there will be people watching him, that’s how it works, it’s part of it.

“There’s going to be big teams watching him but he’s a Villa boy he will want to stay. If a big offer comes in that they feel is worthy for him then, of course, they’ll listen, just looks at the Jack Grealish deal.”

Ramsey has started the season in good form for Villa and scored the winner in their last Premier League victory over Southampton.

The Villans travel to Nottingham Forest in their next fixture with a big win potentially enough to take Villa into the top half of the table.

In other Aston Villa news, Mauricio Pochettino would be an attractive proposition for the club’s owners.
