Leon Bailey is now under pressure to perform at his best for Aston Villa following the signing of Donyell Malen, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

The former Villa forward posted on X (14 January) to dig out the Jamaican winger following the confirmation that Donyell Malen had completed his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Bailey's form has only been seen in glimmers this season with some at Villa Park frustrated with his output, as former Arsenal youth product Malen joins with Champions League experience and 41 caps for the Netherlands under his belt.

Agbonlahor reposted Fabrizio Romano (14 January), and shared: "Pressure's on Leon Bailey now to perform!"

Aston Villa complete Malen deal as Bailey looks over shoulder

Malen arrives at Villa Park from the Bundesliga as a versatile forward who specialises in the wide areas, as seen with some of his excellent showings at Euro 2024 with his national side.

Bailey, who has started 12 of his 17 Premier League appearances this season, has scored just once and claimed two assists - his long-awaited first of the campaign coming on 4 January against Leicester City.

Unai Emery will be delighted with the boost of options in his squad, with depth required for the multiple fronts the Villans are fighting on in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

The signing of Malen may not be the conclusion of Aston Villa's transfer business, but the club will be wary of PSR concerns.

Outgoings may also free up space in the squad, with several players potentially surplus to requirements moving forward.
