Darren Bent made an "embarrassing" claim after Aston Villa rejected a West Ham United bid for Jhon Duran.

It has been reported that the Hammers submitted a £30million offer to Villa for the Colombia international, which was swiftly turned down [Graeme Bailey].

Given how prolific the 21-year-old has been under Unai Emery this campaign, this doesn't come as a surprise.

This bid hasn't gone down well with talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein, who described the Irons' hierarchy as "embarrassing" live on Tuesday (14 January).

He said: "Do you think it's embarrassing for West Ham fans, because David Sullivan has obviously put this ridiculously low offer on the table.

"He'll turn around and say: 'Well we tried to buy him' but you haven't. It's literally like putting £20m on the table for Harry Kane."

Former Villa record signing Bent replied: "Yeah, it’s embarrassing.

"You are never going to get him for that amount of money. It's maybe to show that he is trying to get a striker in and that he is willing."

Goldstein snapped back: "I think it's embarrassing."

The Colombian has been in sensational form this season, which saw him take a starting role from Ollie Watkins before his controversial sending-off against Newcastle United.

With that being said, it would be bizarre for Emery to allow the young forward to leave in January, especially for a fee close to what was spent on him in January 2023.

The Villans parted with £18m to sign the Chicago Fire forward, who has only grown in importance in the seasons after his move.

It would take a lot more than £30m to even tempt Villa to part ways with a player who is so fondly admired by clubs across Europe.
