Alysson must grasp Aston Villa audition - here's what Unai Emery will want to see

Aston Villa's pre-season tour will afford plenty of opportunities to several players over the coming week or so.

Pre-season ventures can be a bit of a mish-mesh at the best of times in truth.

But with players having either returned late because of the World Cup, or still yet to return because of it, it feels even more unpredictable.

Villa are about to embark on playing three games in the space of seven days, starting against an Indonesia XI on Saturday.

They then face off with Pathum United on Tuesday before facing Bayern Munich in Hong Kong next Friday.

One player in particular in the form of 20-year-old gem Alysson will see this as a perfect opportunity to audition to Unai Emery.

How did Alysson fare last season for Aston Villa?

Villa News recently wrote how Alysson can be a winner from Aston Villa's transfer window this summer.

The Brazilian made the move to Villa Park from Gremio on January 1, in a deal that could reportedly reach £10.4million.

However, his start to life at Villa Park was complicated by injury, limiting him to just three appearances off the bench and 56 minutes in total in the Premier League last term.

Consequently, he averaged just 0.03 shots on target and had an expected goals rate of a mere 0.05.

He had a pass accuracy of 82 per cent, though this dropped to 77 per cent in the opposition half.

Alysson managed 0.7 successful dribbles on average, and earned 0.3 fouls.

With Alysson now on the comeback trail, having already racked up pre-season minutes against Walsall, now is the perfect time to show his potential.

What will Unai Emery want from Alysson?

There is no disguising the fact that Morgan Rogers' £117million exit to Chelsea represents a huge blow.

But in adversity comes opportunity, and that is exactly how Alysson has to view it.

With Rogers sold, Jadon Sancho no longer at the club, and Leon Bailey on his way to Hull City, there could be ample opportunity for Alysson this term.

What the right-winger will need to show is his ability to break the lines, and work quickly on the transitions.

Moreover, in the likes of Ollie Watkins and Tammy Abraham, Villa have strikers who thrive on quick and early service.

Alysson must show Emery he is capable of being able to deliver that kind of service for goal-hungry strikers.

But Emery also demands workrate, so he cannot shy away from his defensive duties.

With three games in such a short space of time, now is absolutely the time for Alysson to prove he can play a big role this season.
