Tammy Abraham: Aston Villa star shows 2026-27 breakout potential with underlying numbers
Tammy Abraham posted some very impressive per 90 numbers in the Premier League last season, suggesting he’s primed for a bigger Aston Villa role next term.
Joining from Besiktas in a permanent deal towards the end of last season’s January transfer window, Abraham finally made his way back to Villa Park.
Indeed, he wrote himself into Villa cult hero status during the 2018-19 season, where his 26 goals whilst on loan from Chelsea helped fire the club back into the Premier League.
Since then, he’s enjoyed a number of quality campaigns with the likes of Chelsea, Roma, AC Milan and Besiktas respectively, before being ready to make his West Midlands return.
On an individual level, however, Abraham’s first few months back at Aston Villa weren’t as productive by way of goals or minutes as he would’ve been hoping for.

How good were Tammy Abraham’s per 90 stats last season?
Abraham didn’t get much gametime for Villa during the second half of 2025-26, posing questions already over his long-term future under Unai Emery.
With Ollie Watkins recapturing his goalscoring form towards the end of the campaign, he simply wasn’t going to get many opportunities to start over the England international.

Abraham would be afforded just two Premier League starts last season, culminating in a mere 279 minutes of league action for him.
But, when the big striker did get the chance to don the claret and blue once again, he certainly did a lot with his time on the pitch.
As per FotMob, Abraham registered an average of 0.65 goals per 90 in the top flight last term, whilst also recording an expected goals (xG) of 0.66 and taking 2.90 shots per game as well.
Meanwhile, he also created 1.29 chances, 0.32 big chances, completed 100 per cent of his dribble attempts, won 47.6 per cent of his duels and took 7.10 touches in the opposition box per 90 respectively.

On top of that, Abraham won 1.29 tackles per 90 and made 4.19 defensive contributions per match as well, whilst being dispossessed at a mere average of just 0.32 times per game.
What are Abraham’s Aston Villa prospects like for 2026-27?
Now aged 28, Abraham is very much still in the prime of his career, and should have plenty of quality years left in the tank.
Joining mid-season is always tough, especially for a striker where your primary job is to come in and start scoring goals, and whilst Abraham was only able to net three times last season, his underlying numbers proved he was making an impact.
So, with a full pre-season and with more time to work under Emery, Abraham should only improve in 2026-27.

Watkins’ involvement in the World Cup may also boost his chance of winning a larger role at the start of next season, as the England international might require additional time to rest and recover after the tournament.
If so, that could open the door up to starting opportunities for Abraham, and with Champions League football on the menu as well next season, he should have plenty of chances to see the pitch for the Villans.
