Aston Villa Women overhaul begins as Kirsty Hanson agrees to yet another exit

Aston Villa Women are risking everything by letting Kisty Hanson go.

The transfer window isn’t even underway at this stage, and it already looks as if the Villans’ squad has gotten weaker.

It was far from a vintage season in claret and blue as Natalia Arroyo could only manage a ninth-place WSL finish.

Things could have been much worse if not for the goalscoring exploits of the Scotland international.

Hanson now looks set to depart Aston Villa, marking a big turnaround of star names at this early stage of the summer.

The latest breaking news on active deals, signings, departures, contracts and primary targets.

Kirsty Hanson set to join Tottenham Hotspur Women

The 28-year-old has been excellent in B6 this season after scoring the third-most goals in the entire division.

She is in great company with the likes of Khadija Shaw and Alessia Russo, but that has attracted attention.

Name Goals scored (WSL 25/26)
Khadija Shaw 21
Alessia Russo 13
Kirsty Hanson 12
Stina Blackstenius 10
Vivianne Miedema 10
WSL top goalscorers 2025/26

Her exploits in front of goal don’t appear to have benefited the Villans as she looks set to depart this summer.

BBC Sport journalist Emma Sanders reported on Wednesday that Hanson is set to join Tottenham this summer.

Spurs have held interest since May and finally look set to have acted on that, as Villa have now accepted a bid.

The value is currently unknown, but it is reported that the Scot will put pen to paper on her deal in North London soon.

Hanson has been a star for Villa, and losing her will hurt, especially with so many incomings now needed as the exit door remains busy in B6.

Aston Villa Women must replace four exit-bound stars

It will be a massive blow to lose the Player of the Year, but it isn’t necessarily a surprise after such an excellent campaign.

It won’t be easy to replace her, and other names will need to step up in the Midlands, but those who are leaving could have done so, too.

Villa announced in May that Sabrina D’Angelo, Ebony Salmon and Gabi Nunes would all be leaving when their contracts expire at the end of June.

The latter two are the forwards you would expect Arroyo to utilise to replace the output of the Tottenham-bound attacker.

That won’t be the case, and it raises the question about how many signings will come in and who they will be.

There needs to be an overhaul in B6 now, and it needs to be quick, otherwise relegation could be a true possibility.
