Lucas Digne sends right ‘togetherness’ message to wrong audience after Aston Villa vs Tottenham
Lucas Digne has sent a message to Aston Villa supporters calling on “togetherness” after the dismal defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday night.
The Villa Park faithful made it clear what they thought of Aston Villa’s performance against relegation-threatened Tottenham, both with their voices, and with their feet.
Indeed, a fair few were seen heading for the concourses and even the exits after Richarlison headed home Spurs’ second of the afternoon inside 25 minutes.
By the time Emi Buendia headed in a 96th-minute consolation, Villa Park was sparsely populated with home supporters, as the travelling Tottenham contingent enjoyed a great day out in the West Midlands.
Aston Villa’s loss to Tottenham now makes it three defeats on the spin for Unai Emery‘s side, which is far from the ideal preparation heading into Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg with Nottingham Forest.

What has Lucas Digne said after Aston Villa vs Tottenham?
Aston Villa players have been heavily criticised for both their performances, and their application in Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham.
Many gave off the impression that they didn’t want to be out there at Villa Park, with an evident mindset in the group that the Europa League is now the firm priority.

On Monday morning, Digne took to his Instagram to send a message to the Aston Villa faithful following the previous night’s display.
“Togetherness. Believe,” the defender wrote, which is the right message to be sending out across the Villa universe.

However, given what his comrades did against Spurs, it’s perhaps those inside the Villa dressing room that need to hear that more than the supporters.
Villa players should be ashamed of Tottenham display
As aforementioned, Villa fans made it abundantly clear what they thought of the performance their team put in against Spurs, and so they should.
The body language was off, there was no bite, Tottenham’s swarming press and work rate didn’t see those in Villa shirts look to match it, and in the end, it was a performance that felt like those in claret and blue had put a friendly-level of importance on it.
It’s all fine and well preaching belief and the importance of sticking together, both of which are true, but you also can’t just say it, the players have to show that they hold those values close to them as well.

What the majority of Villa players did on Sunday meant that they didn’t honour those beliefs. They didn’t press as one. They didn’t fight as one. They rolled over for Spurs in order to preserve energy levels for Nottingham Forest.
Football fans, especially hard-working and loyal ones such as Villa supporters, will always back their team and those that wear their badge, but that doesn’t mean they’ll accept performances like that one against Spurs.
Togetherness and belief. The B6 faithful will always show those qualities, but it’s also a two-way street, and now it’s up to this group of players to show they want to give everything for that badge, every time they wear it, with no game being more or less important in that respect.
