Aston Villa: Morgan Rogers’ head in the clouds as readings from Bologna display prove harsh truth
Aston Villa‘s win against Bologna this Thursday had many positives and more, but Morgan Rogers’ performance failed to impress.
The Villans have a two-goal advantage to take back to Villa Park for the return fixture against Bologna, as Ollie Watkins’ second-half brace did the damage at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.
Watkins has been one player criticised this season, but unlike Rogers, he has gotten himself back on track.
Rogers has been linked with a move away from Villa in recent times, and his performance against Bologna was telling.
Unai Emery may have to make a midfield change soon, especially if his star man continues with his poor attitude.

Morgan Rogers’ stats vs Bologna prove he’s downing Aston Villa tools
Rogers had a penalty shout in the match, but similar to his performances of late, he didn’t see any success with his claims.
The attacking midfielder was once seen as Emery’s best player, but supporters are now starting to think that he could be the man holding them back.
| Area of game | Stats |
| Minutes | 88′ |
| Pass accuracy | 73% |
| Chances created | 1 |
| Ground duels (won) | 13 (4) |
| FotMob rating | 6.8 |
As seen in the table above, Rogers had a 31 per cent ground duel success rate and was a key reason for losing the ball nine times.
He created just one chance while also having a 50 per cent shot accuracy, and it’s no surprise to see his lack of influence in the final third with a passing success rate of just 73 per cent.
The 23-year-old was taken off the pitch after 88 minutes, and managed to get a FotMob rating of 6.8, while plenty of his teammate’s were scored above seven.

Rogers managed just 0.07 expected goals from his two attempts on goal, and is now without a goal involvement in 11 games for club and country.
He just doesn’t seem to have his head in the game right now for Villa.
Is Rogers already thinking about a move?
Rogers has 17 goal involvements for the Villans in 45 matches this season, which is currently 10 less than his tally from last campaign.
He is nine games off reaching his appearance total for last season, and could be on track for a statistically worse season this year.

Rogers has just five goal involvements since the turn of the year, and could be an appealing asset for NSWE to sell this summer.
The Englishman has been linked to Manchester United among other clubs, and his desire to play for Emery just doesn’t seem all there at the moment.
