Morgan Rogers sends message to Marcus Rashford after Barcelona goal vs Atletico Madrid

Morgan Rogers has sent a message to former Aston Villa man Marcus Rashford, following his goal for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Rashford would equalise at the Metropolitano just three minutes after Giuliano Simeone’s opening goal for Atleti, before Robert Lewandowski secured all three points for the league leaders in the 87th minute.

Rashford joined the Spaniards on loan last summer, after scoring four goals and registering six assists in a Villa shirt during the second half of the 2024-25 term.

The Catalan giants sit seven points clear of rivals Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, with Rashford becoming a key member of the squad under Hansi Flick.

Taking to Instagram after the match, current Villa star Rogers took the time to show love for his former teammate, who is thriving at the highest level.

Morgan Rogers joins in for Marcus Rashford praise

Making the move to the Midlands last January, Rashford was able to begin hitting levels much closer to his best once again, after a poor period with Manchester United.

Thriving under Unai Emery, the versatile attacker would play a huge part as the Villans surged to the Champions League quarter-finals, before losing to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the Barcelona man posted a selection of images from the clash in Madrid, with Flick’s side now sitting clear at the top – putting Rashford on track for the first league title of his career.

Before, former teammate Rogers was quick to show his support, saying, “My boy.”

Fellow Barcelona teammates would also shower him with praise, with Joao Cancelo calling the former Villa man “Starboy”, while midfielder Gavi said: “My bro Marcus,” with a red heart.

Fans of the B6 outfit will have fond memories of Rashford during his time at Villa Park, and will potentially carry regret that they were not able to keep hold of him for longer.

Aston Villa will have fond memories of Marcus Rashford

While it was short-lived, the 28-year-old’s time in the Midlands proved fantastic, with Rashford continuing to get back up to speed after missing an incredible amount of football in Manchester.

While his final numbers did not end up the most impressive, the impact he had on the side was more than worth the loan deal.

Despite getting back to fitness during his spell, his incredible ability to drive with the ball brought a whole new dimension to Villa’s attack, while his experience at the top level proved vital as Emery’s side progressed to the latter stages of the Champions League.

Alongside Marco Asensio, Rashford arrived as an established star – something that they are potentially missing now as they look to further progress in the Premier League from European contenders to title contenders.

While his ability saw him deserving of his Barcelona move, Aston Villa fans will always feel a sense of regret that they were not able to keep hold of the forward for longer.
