Aston Villa send heartfelt message to Missy Bo Kearns as Kirsty Hanson heroics continue

Aston Villa Women have sent a heartfelt message to Missy Bo Kearns after the England international revealed she had suffered a miscarriage.

Kearns was absent from Villa’s Women’s Super League clash with Chelsea on Sunday, with the 24-year-old later revealing the tragic news about her pregnancy.

Villa midfielder Kearns, whose partner is Luton Town’s Liam Walsh, wrote in a social media post: “With very heavy hearts, we want to share that we’ve lost our baby during pregnancy.

“The past weeks have been filled with a kind of sadness that’s hard to explain, and we’re still trying to come to terms with it all.”

Since then, Villa have sent their best wishes to Kearns, as she spends some time away from the team for compassionate leave.

Kearns, who announced news of her pregnancy on 1 March, also thanked people for reaching out to check in on her and Walsh.

Villa also took to social media to say: “We are sending all our love and support to Missy Bo and Liam at this difficult time.”

And Luton Town added: “We send all our love and support to Liam, Missy Bo, and their families at this deeply sad time.”

Former Blackburn Rovers loanee Kearns has been an astute signing for Villa since joining from Liverpool in 2024.

Her form at the Villa Park outfit earned Kearns her first England caps, with the 24-year-old now having played three times for her country. Villa fans will hope she is back playing soon.

Kirsty Hanson rivalling Khadija Shaw

After a draw with WSL leaders Manchester City and a win at basement side Leicester City, Villa went into their Sunday clash with defending champions Chelsea with real optimism.

And that positivity was not misplaced as they gave the Blues a real scare at Kingsmeadow in a 4-3 loss.

Chasity Grant put the visitors ahead in the second minute and then Hanson’s quickfire double made it 3-3 at half-time.

But Chelsea’s pressure told in the end as Sjoeke Nusken’s late winner settled the contest in west London.

Lynn Wilms bagged three assists in a thrilling game, while Hanson took her tally to 12 goals in the WSL this season.

Only City’s Khadija Shaw has scored more goals than the Villa star with 18. The tests don’t get much easier when they host third-placed Arsenal on Sunday.

But if they play like they did against Chelsea for the visit of the Gunners, they have a fighting chance.
