Alysson’s frustration at Aston Villa: Behind-the-scenes switch-up needed as injury curse continues

Alysson’s latest Aston Villa setback comes as yet another injury blow that Unai Emery is having to deal with this season.

The Villans have lost some ground in the race to secure a top-four finish in hopes of Champions League qualification, and it’s clear to see why.

Despite Villa having a winning run that went into double figures earlier in the season, they still face the threat of missing out on their ultimate league goal, and it’s all down to their injury problems.

Multiple Aston Villa stars are currently sidelined, and the fresh news on Alysson only brings up a broader question about the medical staff in B6.

Alysson injury shows Aston Villa need to change medical staff

As seen in the Sofascore graphic, Alysson made a good first impression when making his Premier League debut against Brighton after joining the Villans for £8.7million in the winter window.

The winger could be an important asset for Emery to use from the bench right now for Villa, but his injury means that once again, the Villans are lacking strength in depth.

The severity of Villa’s injury crisis is highlighted in the graphic below, but it’s important to remember some of the other issues that multiple stars have also faced this season and last at Villa Park.

If there were ever a time to change up the medical staff behind the scenes, it’s now, because not only are players getting injured far too often, but they are taking too long to recover.

Alysson probably isn’t the last star to suffer an injury this season either, as it feels like an inevitable fate for many more to get sidelined before the end of the campaign.

What’s been said about Matty Cash’s injury?

Matty Cash has been absent from a handful of Villa’s recent games, forcing Emery to deploy Lamare Bogarde at right-back.

Bogarde is a natural midfielder, and with no obvious backup for Cash, the Villans have clearly been struggling to cope with the left side of attack from opponents.

The recent news is that Emery is hopeful for Cash to be involved for Villa’s games against Lille and West Ham this week.

While the Polishman is unlikely to be rushed straight in against Lille on Thursday, he could very well start against the Hammers this weekend.

Even so, Cash’s problem is another that highlights the lack of efficiency within Villa’s medical department.
