Morgan Rogers transfer: Mick Brown shares what he’s heard about Aston Villa exit already

Mick Brown believes that Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers could be the ready replacement for Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United if needed this summer.

Rogers recently signed a new contract until 2031 at Villa Park, but has already been linked with moves to the likes of Man United and Tottenham.

Fernandes openly admitted it hurt him that the Red Devils possibly entertained interest from Saudi Arabia last year, staying because he loves the Manchester club.

Interest in Rogers and Fernandes is quiet at the moment, but things can change quickly ahead of the summer World Cup and transfer window.

Morgan Rogers transfer latest at Aston Villa after rumours

Brown has revealed that serious interest is yet to heat up in Rogers, but that could all change in the coming months, with only eight Premier League games remaining.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, the ex-Man United assistant manager and Villa scout admitted that Fernandes could still leave Old Trafford.

“It’s a difficult one with Morgan Rogers,” Brown said. “From what I hear, I don’t think there is an abundance of clubs planning to make a move for him.

Aston Villa are reluctant to sell him, so he’s going to cost a big fee, and then looking at the clubs who could make a move, who really needs him now?

“Liverpool don’t, Man City don’t, Chelsea maybe could make a move, Man United have got Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal don’t need him.

“The only thing could be if Fernandes leaves Man United, then they might look to Rogers as somebody who could come in in that position.

“I don’t think he’s the same type of player; he doesn’t have the same qualities, but they will want a top-class option, and he’s already got that Premier League experience.

“You saw with [Bryan] Mbeumo and [Matheus] Cunha, the impact of players with Premier League experience, and Rogers would be in a similar vein.

“Man United want to keep Fernandes, I have no doubt about that.

“But you never know what the owners are going to do anymore, so if he was allowed to leave, I can see Rogers being somebody they turn to.”

How do Rogers and Fernandes compare this season?

Fernandes has been taking all of the headlines in the Premier League recently, taking over from Rogers and his purple patch during that famous winning run.

The Portuguese star delivered another two assists as Man United beat Villa 3-1 on Sunday, and something needs to change very quickly for Unai Emery.

Looking at the Sofascore graphic below, Fernandes outperforms Rogers in most attacking outputs this season, and that is the level he must strive to reach.

Villa need Rogers back to his best if they are to secure Champions League football again, and that may be needed to keep him past 2026.

Even with a lack of noise right now, this is a huge period for NSWE and their star man.
