Leon Bailey: Aston Villa fans turn on winger after performance vs Manchester United – ‘Dreadful’

Leon Bailey has come under fire for his performance in Aston Villa’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

The Jamaican winger returned from his AS Roma loan spell early with the goal of hoping to help the B6 outfit for the rest of the season.

However, Bailey has not offered the quality that many would have hoped since coming back to Villa Park, as the Villans’ form has continued to dip.

Champions League football looked within Aston Villa’s grasp just a few weeks ago, but now, after another loss, it is starting to slip through their hands.

And Bailey is one player that has been taking quite a bit of criticism.

What have Aston Villa fans been saying about Leon Bailey?

Bailey started on the bench for Villa at Old Trafford and would enter the action in the 66th minute, coming on in place of John McGinn.

At this stage, the game was level at 1-1, with Unai Emery hoping the 28-year-old could turn the game in the away side’s favour.

However, that was not to be the case, and footage has since emerged of the Spaniard growing frustrated with the winger.

The video has certainly not helped Bailey’s case, and in the eyes of fans, it has furthered their concern about the Jamaican.

In reply to the video, one Aston Villa supporter simply stated about Emery: “Now he knows how we feel.”

Others followed suit, showcasing how disgruntled they were with the performance of Bailey.

An Aston Villa fan has even offered Emery advice over Bailey, saying, “Simple solution, dont play him. Hes absolutely dreadful.”

Some Villa supporters believe that the manager had other players that were available to him that could have impacted games more.

Although, this fan below suggests Sancho would not have been possible at Old Trafford, with the loanee unable to face his parent club.

However, it does show Emery has more options than just Bailey.

Overall, Bailey’s future at Aston Villa looks doomed to come to an end in the near future, as fans have begun losing patience.

The summer window could open the door for the winger to leave on a permanent basis after Emery had already sent him out on loan.

How the stats portray Leon Bailey’s display vs Man United

When it comes to Bailey’s performance against Manchester United, supporters are entirely backed up in their assessment.

In just 24 minutes on the pitch, Bailey lost possession seven times, had just one shot on goal and was unsuccessful in his two attempted dribbles, as per Sofascore.

For a player that is most known for his running and ability to beat the man ahead of him, it was not an inspiring cameo.

In truth, it was a display that will do nothing to move the needle for his position within the Aston Villa squad or the minds of fans.

If the Jamaican wants to remain at Villa Park, he must not let these opportunities continuously pass him by.
