Morgan Rogers’ magic fades as Ezri Konsa shines in draw – Aston Villa player ratings vs Leeds United

Aston Villa secured a 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

Villa were looking to put pressure on Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, coming into the clash eight points off the leaders and five behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

Anton Stach opened the scoring at Villa Park in the first half with a stunning free-kick that caught out Emi Martinez.

Unai Emery‘s side could not produce the comeback that they needed on 21 February to win, but Tammy Abraham scored a late leveller to save a point.

Morgan Rogers falters as Villa draw

Morgan Rogers is usually the most exciting player for Emery’s side, capable of producing magical moments from nothing.

However, he was not able to do so on this occasion, as he created just one chance for his teammates, and recorded just two shots with none on target, per Sofascore.

He had 61 touches in the contest, but completed just one of the three dribbles and 32 of the 39 passes that he attempted in a miserable performance.

The England star lost possession 16 times, and made only six progressive carries, for a distance of 115.7m.

Defensively, he attempted nine ground duels but completed just three, for a 33% success rate against the Whites.

It was an untypical showing from the 23-year-old as his usual magic faded away this time.

Ezri Konsa stars in Villans draw

Ezri Konsa is expected to go to the World Cup with the Three Lions, and he proved why in the draw with the Elland Road outfit.

The 28-year-old constantly tried to get his side forward, completing two of the four long passes that he attempted and took 75 total touches in the contest.

He completed 92 per cent of his 58 passes, with a remarkable 88 per cent of his 34 in the opposition half working out.

Konsa made 23 carries, with five of them being progressive, for a total distance of 297.4m, and lost possession just five times.

Defensively, he was top-notch, making four recoveries three interceptions, four clearances, and one block.

In terms of duels, he won all three that he contested on the ground and all four that he went for in the air, for 100 per cent success rates in both categories.

He put the cherry on top of the performance when he grabbed an assist for Abraham’s equaliser in the closing stages.
