Aston Villa in talks to sign Marco Senesi as Unai Emery confidence revealed

Unai Emery is said to be confident that he can lure Marco Senesi to Aston Villa.

Senesi has earned himself a reputation as one of the best non-big-six centre-backs in the Premier League throughout his time at Bournemouth, but an exit from the Vitality is on the cards this summer.

A report from Fichajes states that Villa have already started formal talks to sign the Argentine defender, who has also attracted interest from various other Premier League clubs.

The 28-year-old has already revealed that he will be moving on from the Cherries when his contract expires in the summer, having spent the last four years on the South Coast.

Emery is believed to be confident that the project ongoing at Villa Park can help persuade the Argentine to make the move to the Midlands over the countless other European clubs that are said to be in the mix.

The roadblock standing in Aston Villa’s way

Given how well he has performed for the Cherries this season, it’s not a surprise that several top clubs are chasing his signature this season.

Not only has he got four assists in the Premier League from centre-back, but with 40 interceptions, 186 clearances and 122 duels won, he has showcased that he has the ability to play for the majority of sides in Europe.

And one of the clubs that is also said to be keen on signing him is Barcelona.

Not only are they one of, if not the biggest, clubs in the world, but the Lionel Messi factor could play a role in deciding his next move.

Senesi, having been born and raised in Argentina, will have almost certainly idolised the former Barca star, and the chance to go and represent the same club as him may well prove to be a childhood dream of his.

But with all things said, if Aston Villa were to win the race to sign him in the summer, it wouldn’t bode well for one of their long-standing regulars.

What would Marco Senesi’s arrival mean for Tyrone Mings?

Tyrone Mings has been one of Villa’s most important players over the years, but his impact has certainly faded recently.

The Englishman has been named on the bench several times this season, having made just eight Premier League starts, with Pau Torres usually preferred.

Injuries have played a part in that, but if Senesi were to arrive at Villa Park in the summer, it would be hard to see the 32-year-old featuring at all, and with just one year left on his deal, it would be the last chance for Villa to cash in on him to some extent.

It would be a sad end to his seven-year playing career at Villa Park, but with the Villans looking to make the step to the next level, it may be a needed sacrifice.
