Premier League make Tyrone Mings announcement in Aston Villa win vs Brighton
Tyrone Mings will not be adding to his Aston Villa goal collection after the 1-0 win over Brighton.
Mings thought he had opened the scoring and provided a late winner for the Villans on a tense evening in B6.
However, the goal has been taken off him, with Jack Hinshelwood being awarded an own goal by the goal accreditation panel.
Unai Emery will probably not care, as his side secured all three points at Villa Park on 11 February.

What did the Premier League say about Mings’ goal?
The Villans fans were in raptures as they thought that the 32-year-old had handed them the lead after they had struggled to break down the Seagulls.
The Premier League announced that the goal had been taken off Mings, and handed to Hinshelwood, who will not want it on his record.
Taking to X on 11 February, the PL’s Match Centre account said: “The goal accreditation panel has adjudged Aston Villa’s 86th minute goal as a Hinshelwood own goal.”

Why late goal will be vital for the Villans
It does not matter who the goal has been given to, the main thing is that the Villans secured all three points.
Those points take them to 50 points, and put them in a great position to go on and secure Champions League football next season.
That is five points ahead of Manchester United, who sit in fourth place, and six points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea.
| Position | Played | GD | Points |
| 3. Aston Villa | 26 | +10 | 50 |
| 4. Manchester United | 26 | +10 | 45 |
| 5. Chelsea | 26 | +17 | 44 |
If the Villans go on to achieve their ambition and make it back into Europe’s premier competition, they will look back to this victory as a pivotal one.
Emery will be making sure that his players do not get complacent as the campaign reaches the business end, they will need full focus to complete their mission, and not slip down away from the top-five spots.
Right now, they are in a great position to make it a memorable season though, and they will not care who the goal has been awarded to, as it does not mean anything.
It would have been nice had it been Mings’, but in the grand scheme of things, it does not matter in the slightest, as long as the goal is reached at the end of the campaign.
