Alan Shearer shuts down ‘incredible’ Morgan Rogers debate as Gary Lineker asks new question

Morgan Rogers has been exceptional for Aston Villa this season, as they look to cement their place in next season’s Champions League.

Villa’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth was certainly a disappointing result, but they still maintain an eight-point cushion in the top five.

Rogers was once again on the scoresheet, taking his Premier League total to eight so far. With 13 games to go, he has already matched last season’s league tally.

Of course, the Englishman’s rise has led to a lot of speculation. Ornstein has confirmed that Rogers is attracting interest ahead of the summer, with Chelsea rumoured to be in the lead to sign him.

However, for the player, his focus will solely be on finishing this season strongly, with both eyes set on the World Cup.

Alan Shearer tips Morgan Rogers for starring role in England squad

England have some quality talent in the forward areas, and Rogers’ position is well stocked with players who could start for multiple nations.

Alongside the Aston Villa man, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden all make the case to start for the Three Lions in the upcoming World Cup.

Tuchel certainly has a lot of options at his disposal, and Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have been debating who gets the nod on the Rest Is Football podcast.

And the latter believes Rogers is currently in the driving seat when quizzed by Lineker.

Speaking about Rogers’ performances this season, Shearer said, “I mean, he’s got incredible talent. He’s a brilliant talent, and he’s adding goals to his game.

There’s a maturity about him, I think. He’s brilliant. I love watching him play. He’s got this strut, hasn’t he? Which I really, really like.”

Lineker then asked the question of who should be starting at the World Cup, and that is when the former Newcastle striker made his claim.

Shearer replied, “I think he’ll play with the players that he’s already played. Yeah. I think he’ll have Anderson and perhaps Rice and then Rogers ahead of Bellingham.

“If it were tomorrow, I think that’s what he would go with.”

How is Rogers stacking up against his England competitors?

When it comes to output this season, the Villa Park star is the clear standout among his fellow English compatriots.

His 17 goal contributions in all competitions are more than any of the other options Tuchel could choose from.

However, Palmer could usurp him in the race, as he remains the only contender to average a goal or assist every appearance.

His injury issues have prevented him from featuring as much as the other three, but right now, Rogers is in the lead.

You certainly would not envy Tuchel for the decision he has to make this summer.
